چکیده

In recent years, the removal of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) from aqueous solutions has been gaining a lot attention researchers throughout world. This is particularly due to concern about their potential hazards toxicities, as they are classified emerging contaminants. Thus, there an increasing need investigate technologies for PPCPs at deeper more holistic level. review aims provide latest developments in PPCPs. It first succinctly describes types, characteristics, on environment human health. then comprehensively covers wide range removing solutions, comprising adsorption process (using carbon-based adsorbents, plant biomasses, clay minerals, silica-based zeolite-based polymers resins, hybrid adsorbents), advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) (photocatalysis, Fenton or photo-Fenton electro-Fenton, ozonation, ultrasonication, electrochemical oxidation, persulfate oxidation), membrane separation (ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis), biodegradation (bacteria, fungi, algae), treatment (adsorption-AOP, AOP-membrane, membrane-biodegradation, others). According specific experimental conditions, reported efficiencies adsorption, AOPs, processes, were 40–100%, 3–100%, 14–100% 5–100%, respectively. paper also highlights challenges this field research, incomplete certain PPCPs, high costs some generally insufficient understanding kinetics mechanisms offers recommendations future works further advance technical performances eventually realize wider application these industrial scale.

Occurrence and fate of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in biosolids.

Each year, large quantities of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are used worldwide. Once conveyed to wastewater treatment plants, PPCPs can remain unchanged or undergo partial or complete transformation during wastewater treatment processes before discharge into the environment via effluent and biosolids for land application. Biosolids can be a major sink for some PPCPs. Previ...

ENVIRONMENTAL RISK ASSESSMENT (ERA) OF PHARMACEUTICALS AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS (PPCPs) USING ECOTOXICITY TESTS

A wide range of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) are present in the environment, and many of their adverse effects are unknown. The environmental risk assessment (ERA) of twenty six PPCPs of high consumption and occurrence in Spain was done in this work. Based on ecotoxicity values obtained by bioluminescence and respirometry assays, the compounds were classified as establishe...

Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in treated wastewater discharges into Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.

This study assessed seasonal and regional trends of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) detected in monthly samples from two local wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, over the period of one year. Surface water of Charleston Harbor was also analyzed to examine environmental distribution in an estuarine ecosystem. Of the 19 compounds examined, 11...
